DAY 14 – Friday, Oct. 7 – Esquimalt to Saanich to Victoria, 40 kilometres

So, after two weeks, 1,000-plus kilometres, 27 communities, one minor crash, two potluck suppers, one howling sou’easter, 37 school visits, a few million ibuprofen and, most importantly, $1.5 million raised for the fight against childhood cancer, it’s over.
The 2011 Canadian Cancer Society Cops For Cancer Tour de Rock came to an end at 5 p.m. Friday, following a day highlighted by a string of school visits that included a stop at Reynolds Secondary, where the students’ contribution reached $84,000, with 300 shaved heads to show for it.
For the 22 cyclists, the finale in Centennial marked the conclusion of a seven-month leg of a journey that, for cancer-stricken children, never really ends.
It is with those children and their families in mind that thanks go out to not only the riders but the volunteers, sponsors, police departments, donors and all the others who made it possible for the 2011 Tour de Rock to shine a little light in place where only darkness existed before.
