About
The tour is best described as a team of police officers who gather from up and down Vancouver Island volunteering their time, cycling as a team, from one end of the Vancouver Island to the other, over 15 days. They stop in just about every community to raise money for childhood cancers.
Last year, the tour collected $1.8 million, making it a record year for the Island as well as the second largest fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Fundraising
The Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock raises money for pediatric cancer research and programs for children with a history of cancer including Camp Goodtimes. Camp Goodtimes is a place where kids are able go to forget about their daily struggles with cancer.
They can talk to other kids who have survived what they are now experiencing and get pointers on things most people would never consider; for instance, how to wear a prosthetic. It’s a place where they can take a wig off in public for the first time and feel they won’t be judged. It’s a place where kids can just be kids. Thanks to the money the tours raise, there are first class treatment facilities to care for the campers while they stay.
