Why I Ride And Who I Ride For…
Thanks for taking the time to navigate your way here to my personal fundraising page. As you likely know, I am participating in this year’s Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock, where I, alongside 21 other riders (comprised of police, EHS, fire and media guests), will cycle our way from Port Alice to Saanich over a 14 day period, stopping in multiple cities, schools, and auditoriums along the way. I expect it to be nothing short of life-changing, and this sentiment is echoed by the many riders before me.
However, although this may be life-changing for me, it is not why I’m here doing this. I’m here because in Canada, this year, close to 850 children under the age of 17 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer, and of those diagnosed 135 will unfortunately succumb to the disease. That’s someone’s little boy or little girl; someone’s pride and joy being taken too soon; someone’s little dude or little princess passing away far too early.
So, we ride. We ride so that we can do our part to raise awareness, and raise money, to help fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives…but that’s not all. We also ride so that we can send kids battling this disease to Camp Goodtimes, where they can just get away from all the doctors, tests, treatments, etc., and just be a kid having fun.
We look at it this way: every $1500.00 raised sends one kid with cancer to Camp Goodtimes for 1 week. That’s a whole week of just being a kid, goofing around, getting nutty, and forgetting about the world. This trip, as many have testified, will safe the lives of many of the children who attend. It recharges their batteries, re-motivates their souls, and drives their will to push through to an even deeper level of determination than ever experienced before.
But I can’t do it without your help. We, as a team, can’t do it without your help.
Please pledge me and help me reach my fundraising goal! There is no pledge too big or to small…every dollar counts toward what we are trying to achieve here, and donating here is safe and secure.
